Julian Treasure is the chairman of the Sound Agency, a firm that advises worldwide businesses on the use of sound. He asks that we pay attention to the sounds that surround us. How do they make us feel?… productive, stressed, energized, greedy? Treasure is the author of the book ‘Sound Business’ and keeps a blog of the same title, which ponders aural issues. In the early 1980s, Treasure was the drummer for the Fall-influenced band Transmitters.
TED speaker and sound expert Julian Treasure gave an amazing lecture at TED.com about the need for designers and architects to start approaching their projects not only with their eyes, but also with their ears. “Designing With Your Ears” explores various issues found in schools and hospitals due to poor sound-environments, and the negative effects these have on our health and productivity. Treasure also recommends the use of “invisible architecture” — the rearranging and planning of our spaces around the pursuit of better sound; to make our offices, homes, and schools not only more pleasant spaces, but also healthier.
